RICHARD WAGNER was born at Leipzig on May 22, 1813, and died at Venice in the Palazzo Vendramin on February 13, 1883. The Venetian sculptor Benvenuti took the death mask. The original of our reproduction was in the hands of Nikolaus Oesterlein in Vienna till 1887, and then passed, together with other Wagner relics, to the Wagner Museum of the town of Eisenach.
